Although the game lacks an interactive tutorial to help new players, there are a few elements that guide you during the early stages of the game. Advisors suggest what players could do next and provide tactical advice on what to build or research.

A pop-up robot AI provides information about new systems as they appear. However, I didn’t find these aids useful because I had already looked online for information after my first session with the game due to the lack of clear information in the UI. However, mileage may vary depending on the player.There are 18 base races to choose from. It’s easy to pick one that sounds interesting and jump into a game. After playing a custom race, I think it’s the way to go unless you want to challenge yourself. I can tailor a race to my preferred play style and get a head start on colonizing planets.

  • Players interested in backstory and custom art can also use these features when creating a custom race.
  • I found that the easiest approach was to copy an existing race and modify it to my liking.
  • The options for generating a galaxy map are also excellent.
  • The various sliders allow me to adjust everything from the number of systems to the frequency of habitable planet appearances.
  • During my first few games I encountered other races too quickly.
  • Eventually I made the map as large as possible and placed other races on the farthest setting.
  • Note that these settings increase the recommended system memory to 32 GB of RAM and use up to eight cores.
  • The larger map allowed me to become familiar with my corner of the galaxy before encountering two other races.
  • Make no mistake: It’s still a land rush for the first part of the game.
  • Conquering core planets in the late game can be difficult as fleets build up.
